Notice for holders of expired visas and update on disruption caused by volcanic ashes
Apr 20, 2010
The UK Border Agency has confirmed that there will be transitional arrangements in place for migrants who have been unable to leave the UK and whose visas have now expired due to exceptional circumstances caused by the volcanic ashes. The UKBA has advised travelers to ensure that they retain evidence of their planned travel that would have enabled them to leave the UK before the expiry of their visa.
In addition, due to the ongoing closure of airspace in most European countries, processing times for visa applications from certain countries are being affected. This is because the flight cancellations are causing disruption to courier schedules, leading to delays in transporting passports and visa applications in processing centres in Europe.
The Visa section of the UKBA has also announced that delays are currently occurring at the following visa processing centres:
• Warsaw - This is affecting visa applications from Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Austria, Hungary, Romania and Bulgaria.
• Stockholm - This affects visa applications from Norway and Helsinki. All visa decisions will be delayed by up to one week.
• Belgrade - This is affecting visa applications from Montenegro, Croatia and Slovenia.
• UK - This is affecting visa applications from Algeria and Pakistani settlement applications only.
