Tier 1 PSW Scheme: apply now before closure!!
26 January 2012
The UK Border Agency has now confirmed that the Tier 1 Post-Study Work scheme will be closed in April 2012. This is unfortunate, since most foreign graduates having spent money and effort to complete and gain their UK degrees will not be eligible to remain in the UK in other existing categories.
Thus, we would strongly encourage any UK graduate to submit a postal or same day application as soon as eligible to apply under this scheme. Please note that, as an applicant, you must score a minimum of 75 points, which could be achieved in the following categories:
Education
To be awarded points for education, you must have completed a recognised UK bachelor's or postgraduate degree or a Higher National Diploma (HND) qualification from a recognised Scottish institution. Please note that a professional or vocational qualifications will not be awarded points.
Institution Recognition
There are a total of 20 points in this category. To qualify, the educational institution, where you studied for your qualification, must be an approved Tier 4 education provider.
Previous Immigration Status
The qualification must have been obtained whilst in the UK in one of the following UK immigration category:
- Tier 4 holder
- Student
Date of the application
If your application is submitted within 12 months from the date of obtaining the qualification, you might be eligible for 15 points in this category. An applicant will also need to meet the maintenance requirement.
The Post-Study Work is granted for up to a maximum of two years and further extensions are not permitted. However, you might be eligible to switch into the Tier 2 Scheme having received an offer of a graduate level job from a sponsoring employer.
