UK Visa fee increase: apply before 6 April 2012!

09 February 2012

The UK Border Agency has today announced proposals to increase UK visas application fees for all those applying to visit, study, work or stay in the UK as of 6 April 2012.

According to the UKBA, the fee increase is a necessary measure aiming to reduce the cost to the taxpayer involved in the running of the UKBA. The majority of visa application fees will increase by 2% with fees for dependants being kept at the same level of 50% of a main applicant's fee.  However, in future the UKBA is planning to bring the dependants' fees in line with those charged for a main applicant.
To be noted that the following visa categories under the employment route will attract fee increase of over 20%:
•  Tier 1 General Extensions - increase by 50% from £1,000 to £1,500
•  Tier 2/ Work Permit - increase by 20%, from £400 to £480;
•  Tier 4 visa - increase to £289  & Tier 5 fees to £194 for postal applications;
•  Sponsorship license - an increase from £1,025 to £1,500 for a large sponsor and from £310 to £500 for small sponsors and charities who want to sponsor migrants.
The UKBA will be introducing new Tier 1 Graduate Entrepreneur route. This category will enable graduates from UK universities to stay in the UK where they have a bright business idea, but have yet to develop it to a level where they would qualify for leave as a Tier 1 Entrepreneur.
