Knowledge of Life in the UK - FAQ

15 October 2012

The Life in the UK Test, necessary for a settlement and a nationality application, can be booked online following the link below.

As an applicant, it is compulsory to bring you ID (passport, Biometric card) and a proof of your address and postcode. This should be an original of one of the following documents (photocopies or printouts will not be accepted): gas/electricity/water bill, a Council Tax bill, bank or credit card statement, UK (United Kingdom) photocard driving licence (this can also be used as photographic ID) or a letter from the Home Office with your name and address on it.

Please note that the earliest you can take your test is 7 days from when you book your test.  It is essential, in order to pass the test, to read the second edition of 'Life in the United Kingdom: A Journey to Citizenship'. This is the only official handbook for the Life in the UK test. You will have 45 minutes to answer 24 questions. You can take the test as many times as you need and that the pass mark for the test is around 75%.

If you pass the test, your test supervisor will give you a pass notification letter, which you will be required to sign. However,  if you fail the test, you will have to wait a minimum of 7 days to take the test again.

The current fee for the Life in the UK Test is £50.00, VAT inclusive.
