Following the Migration Advisory Committee (MAC) Report which was published last month, the UK Border Agency has accepted today implementation of all 16 recommendations to the Points Based System. The government will be working on the implementation of those changes in the coming months to ensure resident workers have access to the vacancies before they are offered to foreign workers.

Some of the changes taking effect from next year include:

· All jobs will have to be advertised to British workers on Job Centre Plus for at least four weeks (currently two weeks).

· The qualifying period for Intra-Company transferees will be extend from 6 months to 1 year

· The minimum salary for a skilled worker will rise from £ 17,000 to £ 20,000.
