Student visa interviews

28 May 2013

From 29 May 2013, if you apply for a Tier 4 student visa, you may have to sit a short interview when you attend the visa application centre to submit your application and biometric information.

The interview will focus on your reasons for coming to the UK; this is known as a credibility interview. Also according to the immigration rules “the applicant must, if required to do so on examination or interview, be able to demonstrate without the assistance of an interpreter English language proficiency of a standard to be expected from an individual who has reached the standard specified in a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies”.

In order to qualify applicants must be proficient in English to level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference if they are studying at degree level or above, or to level B1 if they are studying at below degree level.

A report of the interview will be sent to the visa officer who will consider it alongside your visa application and supporting documents. You may be called for a further interview if the visa officer needs more information.

One of the key requirements for qualifying for a student visa is a “Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies” (“CAS”) which is issued by the applicant’s sponsoring education provider.

Another key requirement for applicant is to meet the maintenance requirement which include living costs and course fee.
