Important changes for sponsors under the Points Based System

Oct 5, 2009

Following recent changes introduced to the Immigration Rules the UK Border Agency published revised guidance for employers and education providers who sponsor migrants under the Points Based System (PBS).

The sponsor guidance was split into separate documents for employers ( Tier 2 Sponsored Skilled Workers and  Tier 5 Temporary Workers of the PBS) and for education providers ( Tier 4 Students).

The education providers can start using the sponsorship management system to issue confirmations of acceptance for studies (CAS). During a voluntary trial period which will run until February 2010, Tier 4 sponsors will be able to choose whether to issue visa letters or CAS to migrants applying to them from inside the United Kingdom. CAS will completely replace visa letters next February.
