Allocation of Restricted Certificate of Sponsorship in November 2015

18 November 2015

The total number of restricted Certificate of Sponsorship (CoS) available to Tier 2 (General) sponsors is 20,700 per year, between 6 April 2015 and 5 April 2016. The average monthly allocation is 1,650 but this number does fluctuate depending on how many “unused” or “returned” CoS are left over from the previous month.

The minimum points for granting a restricted CoS also varies on a monthly basis. For instance, if there is a higher demand from employers in one month, the UKVI will prioritise jobs in shortage occupations, PhD levels and those with the highest salary. In June 2015, the number of skilled worker visa applications increased significantly topping for first time the monthly ceiling. As a result, the minimum threshold to qualify for a restricted CoS reached 50 points. However, in November 2015, the minimum threshold was again lowered to 21 points, whereby applicants only needed to show an annual gross salary in the amount of £20,800. This might be due to reduced demand for restricted CoS as well as the new point bands table introduced by the UKVI in October 2015.

Therefore, although the allocation of restricted CoS may vary each month, a migrant can still successfully apply for a Tier 2 General Visa if all the requirements are met. If you are concerned about your options and wish to seek legal advice, please email us at info@migraco.com.
