£15,000 fee for faster visa processing

22 January 2010

UK immigration news -there has been some controversy around the interpretation of Mr Alan Travis's news article which appeared yesterday in The Guardian.

Mr Travis seemed to suggest that for a mere £15,000 'super-rich' immigrants will be able to have their biometrics collected and visa processed at their place of work and/or residence.

Some immigration professionals read the amount of £15,000 as the fee to be paid if the employers or colleges were to have access to a mobile biometric unit. This facility would allow the collection of biometric data from applicants at their college or place of work. Such interpretation would mean that the premium fee per person would depend on the number of people whose biometric data need to be taken during one visit (assuming that there would be a maximum threshold per visit). Others, however, now believe that the amount of £15,000 was quoted per person to cover the full processing of one application and the subsequent passport's endorsement.

Unfortunately, at the time of writing, the UK immigration authorities (Border Agency) has not yet not responded to our request for further clarification.
