New procedures for sponsoring Tier 4 students
Jan 28, 2010
On 22 February 2010 the final phase of the Tier 4 implementation will be completed resulting in changes to the procedure for sponsoring students under Tier 4 of the points-based system. From this date, Tier 4 sponsors will need to use the sponsorship management system to issue a confirmation of acceptance for studies (CASs) to all students applying from inside as well as outside the UK.
The sponsoring college will have to provide potential students with a CAS number, a sponsor licence number as well as detailed information regarding the course (title, start and end date, awarding body etc.)
Visa letters will cease to exist and applications under Tier 4 Students without a CAS number will fall for immediate refusal.
Please note that prospective students who already are in possession of a visa letter but will be applying on or after 22 February will need to be issued with a CAS number to succeed in their application.
Tier 4 Students applications are quite complex as the UK immigration authorities as well as British Diplomatic Posts are applying greater scrutiny and less discretion when deciding these applications. Therefore, it's imperative to carefully read the guidance or rely on expert legal advice.
