Important dates affecting applications under the Tier 4 Student Scheme

After much media attention, the UK Border Agency has announced the implementation of the Statement of Changes in the Immigration Rules (HC 367) on 3 March 2010 in an effort to crack down alleged loop holes in the immigration system exploited by foreign students.
Thus, as of 3 March 2010 students on short- term courses will only be able to work for 10 hours per week during term time instead of the 20 hours. Leave to enter or remain will no longer be available to the immediate family members of students on course of study of six months or less.
The Tier 4 Student Scheme will also be amended so that dependants of students studying at less than degree level will not be allowed to work in the UK.
Please note that the transitional arrangements allowing a student to show the required funds only on the date of submission were removed on 1 February 2010. Therefore, a student will now need to show the required funds as a daily minimum balance for a period of 28 days ending no more than 1 month from the date of the submission.
From 22 February 2010, any migrant who applies to study in the UK under Tier 4 Student of the points-based system must have a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) from their prospective sponsor. Any applications that are paid for on or after 22 February 2010 and are not supported by a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies will be refused.
