UK Domestic Worker visa category

09 March 2010

This is just a quick reminder that as a domestic worker or as the employer of a domestic worker in the UK, you will need to apply for an extension before the expiry of the current leave endorsed in the passport.

You will need to carefully complete, date and sign the application form known as FLR(BID) and not the FLR(O) form. This is a common mistake as the FLR(O) form was used to apply before the introduction of biometrics for domestic workers among other immigration categories.

In addition, the UK Border Agency requires the applicant to show compliance with paragraph 159D of the Immigration Rules and in terms of evidence, the following will need to be provided:

  • a letter from your employer confirming that they want to continue employing you;
  • a letter from your employer (signed by you and by your employer) outlining the main conditions of your employment, including your duties, rate of pay and hours of work; and
  • a letter from your employer confirming that they will comply with UK law on the national minimum wage.

This list is not exhaustive and we would recommend to seek expert legal advice to make an in person or postal application. If your application is successful, the UK Border Agency will give you permission to stay for another 12 months.
