UK work permit: care assistants and chefs
18 May 2010
Care assistants and chefs have been placed at the centre of the immigration debate as they are often used as an easy target to blame for the rising number of low skilled migrants coming to the UK. However, leaving the unhelpful rhetoric aside, chefs and carers do provide an invaluable service to the UK by respectively assisting the elderly and other vulnerable categories, as well as providing needed culinary diversity and making the United Kingdom one the most colourful and spices-full country in the world.
Their contribution is further recognised by the fact that both senior care workers and skilled chefs are listed in the shortage occupation list under the Tier 2/Work Permit category which implies that they are filling jobs that the UK settled population might be unable and/or unwilling to do. Please contact us if you are falling in one of these categories or you wish to employ a foreign migrant in this role.
