Access to the UK labour market for Romanian and Bulgarian nationals

From 1 January 2014, the UK’s labour market is fully open to Romanian and Bulgarian nationals following the expiration of transitional controls that were imposed on A2 countries. Henceforth, nationals of the two countries will benefit from the free movement right of the European Economic Area (EEA) and can come and work in the UK providing that they are exercising their treaty rights as a student, worker, self-employed or self-sufficient person.

Those coming to the UK without a job offer must establish that they can financially support themselves and their family and have proper medical insurance. Please note that it is essential to meet the residence requirements of the Free Movement Persons Directive in order to have the right to lawfully reside in the UK.
