Afghanistan Citizens’ Resettlement

Due to the ongoing crisis in Afghanistan, the Home Office will be introducing the Afghanistan Citizen’s Resettlement Scheme. Although not yet launched, the aim of the scheme is to resettle Afghan nationals most in need who have been forced to flee Afghanistan, in particular women, girls, and children at risk. The scheme will only be available for those who need assistance and have had to flee due to the current circumstances, it will not be available for those already in the UK.

It will welcome 5,000 Afghans in the first year with a view of extending this to a total of 20,000 in the long term.

It should be noted that this scheme is different to the Afghan Relocations and Assistance Policy (ARAP) which was launched on 1 April 2021. The aim of ARAP is to assist current or former staff employed by Her Majesty’s Government (HMG) who are facing a serious threat to their lives in Afghanistan. This is regardless of their employment status, rank, role or length of time served to HMG.
