Immigration Health Surcharge

The Immigration Health Surcharge (IHS) allows visa nationals to access NHS services whilst they are in the UK. You will need to pay it if you are a non-EU national and are applying for a visa to work, study or join your family member in the UK for a period of more than 6 months. However, this does not apply to visitor visas.

The amount that you will need to pay varies, depending on the type and length of the visa applied for.

Fees:

  • £300 per year if you are a Tier 4 student or on a Tier 5 (Youth Mobility scheme) visa
  • £400 per year for all other visa categories

 

Payment will be made online at the same time as when you pay for the UKVI fees.

If you decide to withdraw your application or for any reason your application is refused, the IHS will be refunded automatically back into your bank account within 6 weeks. However, you will need to contact the UKVI if it takes longer than this using the link below:
