Passport processing times surge to 10 weeks

The Home Office confirmed a “temporary increase” in the amount of passport applications due to the five weeks of strike action by the Passport Office workers.

The strike is going to be held between 3 April and 5 May in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland, by more than 4000 attendees, which is over a quarter of the Passport Office’s employees.

There is currently no plan to change the passport processing times in the related guidance, but the latter is expected to increase to 10 weeks and the delays would be in both applications and the delivery of passport in the run-up to summer.

The urgent services are still available while the strikes are taking place. There will be no impact on demanding a passport on compassionate grounds for urgent travel. However, we have been notified that there will be a reduction of availability in the amount of appointments for other urgent services.
