Theresa May has now published an official statement setting out her \u2018Plan B\u2019 for how to proceed following her Brexit deal defeat by 230 votes on 15 January 2019.<\/p>\n

The British PM has waived the \u00a365 fee for EU citizens to apply to stay in the UK after Brexit. Further, those who have already applied will also be refunded.<\/p>\n

EU citizens registration<\/strong><\/p>\n

UK officials have confirmed the process EU citizens must go through to remain in Britain after Brexit. More than 3.5 million EU nationals in the UK will have to use the EU Settlement Scheme if they wish to remain beyond June 2021.<\/p>\n

EU migrants who have been in the UK for five years or more by 31 December 2020 will be able to apply for \u2018settled status\u2019. This means they will be free to continue living and working in the UK without any control or restrictions. However, the initial Government\u2019s proposals would allow unlimited “low-skilled” EU immigration until 2025.<\/p>\n

People who have not lived in the UK for five years must apply for \u2018pre-settled\u2019 status, giving them the right to stay until they reach the five years mark.<\/p>\n
