There are 2 different family permits:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>the EEA family permit<\/li>\n<li>the EU Settlement Scheme family permit<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>The EEA family permit<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>You can apply for an EEA family permit to enter the UK if:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>You are from outside the European Economic Area (EEA);<\/li>\n<li>You are a \u2018close\u2019 or \u2018extended\u2019 family member of an EEA or Swiss national (excluding UK nationals).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>There are other ways you may be eligible for an EEA family permit, for example:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>You hold a \u2018derivative right of residence\u2019 &#8211; you\u2019re the carer of someone who has the right to be in the UK, the carer\u2019s child, or the child of an EEA national who previously worked in the UK;<\/li>\n<li>If you made a \u2018Surinder Singh\u2019 application after living in another EEA country with a British family member;<\/li>\n<li>You hold a \u2018retained right of residence\u2019 &#8211; you have the right to stay in the UK as the family member of an EEA national who has died, left the UK or is no longer your spouse or civil partner.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Eligibility of the EEA citizen<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The EEA citizen you would like to join must either:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Be in the UK already;<\/li>\n<li>Be travelling with you to the UK within 6 months of the date of your application.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>If they have been in the UK for more than 3 months they must either:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Be a \u2018qualified person\u2019 (working, looking for work, self-employed, studying or self-sufficient) or<\/li>\n<li>Have a permanent residence document<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Please note that if your family member is not a <strong>\u2018qualified person\u2019<\/strong> and does not have a <strong>permanent residence document<\/strong>, you may be eligible for an EU Settlement Scheme family permit instead.<\/p>\n<p><strong>How long is it granted for?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>An EEA family permit is valid for 6 months.
