More than 6 million applications were successfully made to the EU Settlement Scheme (EUSS) by the 30 June 2021 deadline. However, there is a small percentage of EU nationals who have missed the deadline, for which the Home Office has now put in place arrangements allowing them to submit a late application as long as they can show a reasonable ground for missing the stated deadline.<\/p>\n
In a significant U-turn, the Home Office has confirmed that EU citizens and their families will have their basic rights in the UK protected, whilst their application is being considered even past\u00a0 30 June 2021.<\/p>\n
\u2018While the numbers applying late have been small compared to pre-deadline application numbers, to provide further reassurance to late applicants the government will protect their rights until their application and any appeal is decided.<\/em><\/p>\n The government will also take a similar approach with joining family members, who will have temporary protection for 3 months after their arrival in the UK and pending the outcome of an EUSS application made during that period (and of any appeal).\u2019<\/em><\/p>\n Therefore, late applicants should be able to continue exercising their following rights in the UK:<\/p>\n In addition, the following gov.uk page has also been updated regarding right to work checks.<\/p>\n \u2018On 6 August 2021, the government announced temporary protection for more applicants to the EUSS.
