On 21 May 2024, the Home Office confirmed changes to the EU Settlement Scheme. In short, all those granted pre-settled status under the EU Settlement Scheme can continue to prove their rights easily. In the previous announcement in July 2023, it was confirmed that from September 2023, people with pre-settled status under the EU Settlement Scheme (EUSS) will automatically have their permission to remain extended by 2 years before it expires if they have not obtained settled status.<\/p>\n
The Home Office will now extend pre-settled status durations from 2 to 5 years and remove the expiry date of pre-settled status from the digital profile used in the online checking services for Right to Work, Right to Rent, and View and Prove. Consequently, employers, landlords, and letting agents will not need to conduct additional right to work or rent checks as long as the individual remains employed or part of the tenancy agreement.<\/p>\n
There is one more change in immigration rules which came into force on 21 May. Pre-settled status holders will no longer lose their status after two years of living abroad. Instead, they will have the same lapse period as settled status holders: five years for most permit holders and four years for Swiss nationals and their family members.<\/p>\n
