Tier 5 Temporary Workers

The Tier 5 scheme of the Points Based System (PBS) is designed to allow temporary workers and 18-30 year olds in the Youth Mobility Scheme (YMS) to come to the United Kingdom to undertake short-term, temporary work.

You can apply through one of the following categories:

Creative and Sporting

This category is for those of you coming to the UK for a short periods of time, primarily to perform, compete or otherwise take part in one or a series of events as sportspeople, entertainers or creative artists.

Charity Workers

This category is for migrants coming to work temporarily in the UK as voluntary workers for a charity.

Religious Workers

This category is for migrants coming to work temporarily in the UK as a religious worker in a non-pastoral role or to perform religious rites but not to preach to a congregation.

Government Authorised Exchange

This category if for migrants coming through approved schemes aimed at sharing knowledge, experience and best practice.

International Agreement

This is for migrants who are coming to the UK under contract to provide a service that is covered under international law, including GATS and similar bilateral agreements, employees of overseas governments and international organisations, and the provision for private servants in diplomatic households.

All applicants in a temporary worker category will need to obtain an entry clearance in the category under which you are applying. You will also need to show that you have enough points to qualify. Points are assessed on two sets of objective criteria and awarded on production of: (1) A valid certificate of sponsorship issued by your licensed sponsor and (2) Evidence that the migrant has sufficient funds.

Youth Mobility

Individuals applying under the Youth Mobility Scheme (YMS) will need to be a national of a country participating in the scheme (Japan, Australia, New Zealand and Canada) and/or sponsored by your national government. In addition, you must be 18 – 30 years of age, meet the maintenance requirements and not have any dependant children.
